ME on the PRESS

note that the 2nd picture should be creditted to Hangmen as those are his collections

hahaha, not exactly a hot topic but I'm proud that my hobby that I'm really into it finally get acknowledgements and media coverage.

During the HobbyCon '08 held in Komplex Asia City (KAC) on the 6th & 7th Dec 2008, I was interviewed but not knowing that she's a journalist. She was asking few questions about where I get my collections and how long I was into this hobby.

I wasn't aware that she was actually interviewing until she finally take out her notepad and start noting my every single words I've just said. Luckily I didn't go "gangsta" on my 'engrish' (yeap yeap PUN intended)

The article was published on 7th December 2008 on New Sabah Times. I wasn't aware of the article until I arrived to the event venue where Julian (aka the notorious Sotong in CSP) came waving the cut-out article in-front of me while I'm setting up my booth for the event.

Minutes later, my bro Clarence came with the newspaper telling me "Dude, you're on paper you f**ker !!!". Wasn't sure what's my reaction that time but oh well - at least my (and Hangmen) collections, time and money that we've invested did attracted some attentions.

HobbyCon '08

DISCLAIMER: Below article are solely written by me based on what I've experience and seen during the event. Any offended remark(s) by me. Too bad - you just have to live with it !! TQ

Ahha !!! Finally I uploaded my long overdued pictures of HobbyCon '08. Not professional taken of course since I'm still using my crappy 'point 'n shoot' Canon Ixus65 camera. Enough naggin' bout my crappy camera.

It was on 6th & 7th December 2008 in KAC (Komplex Asia City) Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.
I was there, way too early on the first day where the lights and air-conditions systems are not even operational yet. I was so "semangat" (hyped in Malay) on this event that I've actually boarded a flight and flew over just to participate this event and showcase my "children".

As soon as I start setup my displays, few members approached me and some of them new I'm "Nerdpride"!! mainly because I dragged my luggages around the hall.

A special thanks to those who helped me on getting those shoe boxes - Here's a special respect to you all !!!

The crowd started to coming slowly. Mostly are CSPian. Most surprisingly was the Maid Cafe that was actually just right next to my display booth !!! WEEEEE.. Lotsa lolitacons !!!

Took me around 1 hour just to set my figures right and halfway through my setup, here comes Hangmen with his brother and friends.

Waste no time, Hangmen too quickly setup his collections. I felt kinda bad as I took too much of the space provided by the organizer. But hey !! I thought we'll get 3 tables, but yeah 2 big ones and 1 tiny 1 ones. But we did managed and improvises. This is why I needed those boxes.

After we setup our figures, Hangmen went to transformed into his "Pointman Mark II" (think that's the name he mentioned) together with his slightly de-formed P90 rifle.

More and more cosplayers arrivedso as more and more visitors came for the event. Still most of them are CSPian mainly because they wore the CSP tees.

Other booths managed to setup in time. There are the PVC figures by BaKaNeKo, GundamXToysXCostumes by J.H Printing ???, an IT station (with only two rigs) , card&board games, Digital gaming stations , manga & artist station, magic the gathering tournament ring ???!!?? and of course the Maid Cafe. Not forgetting the "serve as barrier" book fairs surrounding our event.

Overall, this is not such a BIG event as the name carries [HobbyCon], but this is the 2nd year in the making and hopefully it'll grow bigger.

Another fellow SDKian came to my aid, eehsitna his nick in CSP Forum. Of course not forgetting few fellow CSPian volunteers came to our booth to help out on securities. Sadly and sorry that I can't recall their names nor nicks. If you're reading this, please feedback on the comment sections so that I can credit your name here >.<

Moving on are the environments, well - given the venue are not the over-rated shoppers paradise. Patrons are few. Visitors are either from friends among friends of CSP or just simply a passer-by or of those who actually came for the book fair.

The sound systems are just below the OK mark. Sorry for this comment as I've attended too many live performance during my days following Dragon Red around (no, I'm not their groupies - I'm their so-called on-site manager !!). To make the matter worst is the notorious kiddy-high-on-valiums voice singing the DragonBall Z tune. Song list are so repititive for the course of 2 days. Suffering indeed.

The main attractions of this event are solely on the cosplayers. On the 1st day, hats off to the group that cosplayed the Akatsuki from the anime Naruto (the bad guys of course). They actually came out 2 by 2 to attract the crowds. Kudos on their efforts and myterious-ness.. hahaha.

There are alot more cosplayers that are eye-catching even to the extend of below-the-knee snapper lurks during the event. Too bad no one tell me 'bout it else I'll stretch my bones to break his bones !!!!

Back to my booth, I was asked if my collections are up for sales or not. Man, I should have printout a sign saaid"FOR DISPLAY ONLY". There is this particular lady who actually taking pictures for awhile and asked alot questions until I realized she's actually a reporter. HAHA, I am that slow and yes, me and my children are arcticled in New Sabah Times on the 7th December 2008 (Sunday) prints. *blush*

I was surprised that alot people actually interested in our 1/6 hobby. It's just that they do not have a right connections for the parts and items. Me and Hangmen are there to explain our passion for 1/6. Of course, Hangmen too explained his passions on 1:1 scales as well. HAHAHA

Thanks to my bro Clarence that help me buy those mineral waters. Since I've checked CSP donations funds. There are a small sur-plus so I decided to donate waters and KFCs. ^^
Unfortunately, those KFCs ain't enough to go around. So next year, I will order 10 large pizzas and hopefully organizers able to provide a necessary space.

On the 2nd day, thanks again to my bro Clarence that drove me all the way to buy those KFCs.

On the side note: Hope next time someone can offer help to clean up the place after their meal. Don't just "eat 'n' run" !!!

Thanks to the support of my family which happened to be in town as well on the 2nd day of the event.

Move on the 2nd day, business as usual as I was abit late. I arrived around 10am while the event start at 11am. Thanks to eehsitna and fellow volunteers, we able to setup my figures in just 15 minutes. During the setup I just realize that I broke one of the M4 rfiles... sob sob

Even more cosplayers show up on the 2nd day mainly of the competition held later in the afternoon. I notice there's a flaw in the voting systems. Well, not that I voted but I was chatting with BaKaNeKo. He did mentioned that the voting system needed to be revamped. If the voting ticket are not to registered - well you can guess the outcome of the winners.

I'm not a judge here but I think a fairer voting system need to be design. Cosplayers profiles should be shown as who are they cosplaying sort of like a pageant thingy.. haha
Well, who am I to judge anyway - just my personal opinion. This is my blog, I'm free to write I deemed fit. Which is why I didn't mentioned in CSP forum. WHY you asked?? CSP forum are governed by same bunch of people running HobbyCon. So outsiders like me to feedback or give opinion will most likely be blocked out.

Overall the event was a success but there are alot of way to improvements.  To my understanding, it was the matter of manpower and "one voice one vision" plan. Seems to have internal conflicts within the committee members. Well, since i'm not one of them, I have to right to judge that. This is just my personal opinions.

Hope what I can see during the next course of HobbyCon '09. If given the right size of the venue. I hope that selling booths and display booths can be seperated out in sections. Some CSP members already pointed out that simply selling the items doesn't reflect the passion of the hobby itself.

Maid cafe definitely deserves a larger space. Since with only 2 small table, visitors/patrons wasn't even sure where they can be sitted.

Hopefully organizer able to attract more different kind of hobbist out there to join this great event and not just by playing it safe by making the HobbyCon small within and group of friends.

Again, my opinion may offend certain parties. If so, again - you just have to live with it !!!

Enough of talking/typing - below are my uberish pictures taken by me.

SHOCKING !!!

This economic turbulence finally get a (few) toll(s) on me. I finally decided to cancel some of my pre-orders and existing collection to make way for priority stuff which is still figures and toys !! LOLBBQSAUCEROFL~~

Here's the list i'm pulling the plug:-
HT Joker Bank Robber Version - (cancelled)
HT Dark Knight (Original Suit) - (sold)
HT Dark Knight (Dark Knight Suit) - (sold)
HT Joker- (sold)
HT Bat-pod - (cancelled)
HT Ironman MK.II (cancelled)
Sideshow Indiana Jones :Raider of the Lost Ark - (cancelled)
Apple Iphone 3G - (cancelled)
Trip to Shanghai - (cancelled)

That's all about it!!!

You guys must be wondering why suddenly the massive cancellation and look at those 1/6 stuff to be lay off !!!

Reason behind those HT figures was I was poisoned blindly without thinking clearly that it was just another fan service. While I'm not exactly Batman fan  so it's not fair for  me to hold them captive. I decided to let them go to a better home.

I rather call myself a kitbasher/customizer rather than a collector. So those sets ain't my taste afterall. I'll just stick to military lines for now.

The Iphone, well I just wasn't too sure that I need such phone. Seriously, it wasn't such a great phone and it's huge !!! I'll stick with my Nokia 81 8GB for now.

Ugh~ trip to Shanghai, China was cancelled because my friend there busy with something - so I need to reschedule my timetable again.

OK!! the real reason behind my sudden change of mind is that thanks to Danny Choo poisoning and his famous skit. YES !!! Stormtrooper suit !!!

As we speak, a friend of mine in California is helping me to find a Stormstrooper prop suit. Hopefully will get a sweet news from him soon !! Cross my fingers and toes now!!! That'll cost me around a grand or two !! (that spell USD1k-2k) with shipping of course

I'm looking for professional tailored set that include the helmet (with fans and mic), body armors, jumpsuits, boots and gloves. Oh the blaster rifle i need to assemble myself cuz i dont think it'll pass through Malaysian customs hahaha.

Hope one day I'm able to join Danny and dance around in Japan (by next year hopefully)

That's all folks - a little news on my side ^^

Command and Conquer : Red Alert 3 (PC)

It's been awhile since I've actually played any PC games. Just few days ago, I've tried Fallout 3 - seriously, I ain't my type of game. I prefer those straight to the point with no nonsense to tag along. No offence to Fallout series fanboy though.

So I've get my hand busy with Command and Conquer : Red Alert 3. After waited so long for it's release, I'm kinda again get mixed feelings (I think the phrase that I overly used).

From RA 2 and get to RA 3 had came along way in between. Technology and graphical wise, of course it is on another level. Fans like us expect something more of a twist from the storyline, but EA gave us a tango instead !!! Totally altered the story by killing A.Einstien - haha no more e=mc2 !!!

FYI, first series (RA1 & RA2) were made by Westwood before EA (Electronic Arts) tookover them. RA3 was such a disappointment. Even the installation doesn't come with fancy intro and GUI. That I can live with it.

Then of course the B-list and C-list stars used for the cut-scenes. EA never fail to live up their tagline - "Sex can sell" - hahaha. I have nothing to complain with the female they used except for Kelly Hu for the Empire side. She's abit to old for the job. I do agree she's hot - but few years back - now ? nah-ah~ At least get someone younger hotter like Grace Park -oh wait !! She's in C&C :Tiberium Wars already, hot damn!!!

Again, those acting are as usual corny and ermmm.. suck ???

Can't believe EA actually screwed this wonderful game - heck when you actually play this game - elements of C&C: General are all-over !!! My best guess is they used back the same old engine in General. Not that General suck, but at least put in something more.

I really do hope the storyline get to evolve through the expansions. Alot of mentioned characters did not get a proper appearance like Natasha that used as the cover.

Again, hope that they bring back Yuri.. haha !!! or maybe add other super power like China and the Middle East !!! heyhey that already like General !!! but what the heck.

Let's break it down on this mini-review.

Graphic
I was running on a Nvidia 8500GT so best I could go on medium setting w/o much lag. But the graphic isn't no where better than C&C: General. That's a dissappointment as we expect something more superior since it came a long way.

Sound/Music
Again, Hell March always my fave. tune in C&C since RA2. Grinder another old tune that remain in RA3. Among the 3 faction, USSR tunes was the best as they match the mood and agenda. Allies and Empire isn't so much.
Sound wise, some of us expect Tanya with her quote "Shake it baby" - "Ka-Ching" no where to be found yet.

Battle mechanics
As I've said, it is the same as C&C : General. So there ins't much of a surprise. The GUI are same classic right side control panel where you choose you builds.

Storyline
As I've said - CORNY !!!!! Well, not to expect too much. Not much of a mystery behind each faction story-telling. Each have their own agenda but at least put in more effort to develop the story. Hope it can be remedied through the expansion.

What's new ?
Don't expect tonnes of new things. First, in campaign mode - you'll get to choose an AI partner called "Co-Op" to aid you in your mission. Which make this game easier to beat. Plus each mission you'll get to choose the difficulties ranging from EASY-MEDIUM-HARD

Allies and USSR battle units are easy to master and muster since they are almost direct decendant from RA2. Yes, comrade Kirov here to report for duty !!!! Our fave bombartment blimps are here again with options to speed boost but will cost your health points.

Allies with their prism techs are here to protect and serve. Tanya are still around to blow you up to pieces.

The only thing we really need to learn is the Empire. Set in the story to be an advance technological faction they even have mecha for godsake !!!! Even some units can be transform from land unit to an air unit !!! Very Japanese if you ask me. Even lolitas with sailor suit highschool outfit made and appearance. HAHA

So since there's alot of negative points I've point. The babes in the game kinda even it out respectively.. ^^

here's a comic strip that even out more !!!

There you go. My personal opinion on this much anticipated game.

BORED with 1/6 ???

OMG, I'm actually bored with 1/6 ?? Not even close, but kinda in a conflict now. When you reach a certain stage, things bound to change. Evolving should be the right word.

Maybe because I went too damn fast, my idea are drying out fast. I couldn't think of any idea to bash anything good.

The other night, I was messing around with my spare loose parts hoping to bash something out of it. But it cameout something crappy.

YEAH YEAH, this is my first rant post here. Anyone out there can share or at least give me some idea.

To counter this, I have started to experiment some materials to do dioramas. I've successfully made some decent looking dios. (pics will come later)

I'm still in the mist in perfecting the mothod hopefully it could be useful to fellow 1/6 citizen which always wanted to create dioramas but do not have the professional tools and materials. I'm trying to create dios using household items which you can even get it in your rundown grocery stores.

I have a secret project going on which I think will be my best work of all time. This of course is 1/6 action figure. Unlike anything you seen so far. This is my first attempt on sci-fi genre and a scratch building of the bits. So stay tune, but be warn - it won't come by anytime soon.

The future is coming !!!

AH~~ awhile since I blog again ~~ cuz I'm lazy obviously~duh~~~~

Actually, wasn't around to bash stuff lately. That's cuz I'm running out of parts and ideas for and quality bash(es). But no sweat ~ HT and VH to the rescue.

Their recently upcoming stuff automatically top my "must-by" list.

Again, we have Very Hot product on the line. Though I may always bitch about their quality control and their lousy parts. But this issues slowly improve since their CBT PMC Multicam set.
This latest release look pretty much decent and simple enough to re-bash with better part (if required).

The bright side of all the worst scenarios - VH product always the cheapest alternative.

Speaking about the pricing - Hot Toys had just announce the upcoming release on Secret Service (ERT) both male and female version.

Let's look at the female version first. At last, Hot Toys finally release a rooted hair headsculpt in the Military Forces line. Currently, there's a debate on who the headsculpt were based on. Some say A.Jolie, while other think it's K.Knightley - as both were released by HT before. But I think it is K.Knightley - though at first glance I too thought was A.Jolie as most of HT fanboys still down with Machiko syndrome. (please I won't do a review of Machiko here since there's tonnes out there, since mine still wrap in plastics.)

So, you judge yourself if it's Keira or Angelina.

Next up is the dude version -

Again, some may ask what Secret Service ? I haven't start doing research on them yet, but from what I see from 24 series. They act as bodyguard to high ranking official in the U.S. government. These bunch can be seen patrolling around the White House. But such heavily armed agents only can be seen within the presidential compound for within the secure area during a US President stopover or presidential visits. These are called the uniformed divisions. Un-uniformed divisions are those wearing business suits or tuxs which we normally seen in silverscreens.

From what I understand, Secret Service considered as meat-shield for these VVIPs. They will use their bodies to shield bullets during under-seige. Such concept were also seen in Yakuza underlings to protect their bosses during ambush or drive-by.

There's a movie which starred Michael Douglas, Kiefer Sutherland, Eva Longoria Parker in THE SENTINEL. You can get a brief idea on what Secret Service do and their roles.

If you wanna know more, as always Google or Wiki it !!!

Currently I'm playing the latest DJ MAX series the

DJ Max Portable Emotional Sense - Clazziquai Edition

I know most of you PSP-fanboys out there running a CFW (as do I) but this latest hit games will required you  to have at least v4.01 running in your PSP. Check with your local gaming shop to updates your firmware. It is still playable if your still on v3.91 but your will not get the vocal in the game and maybe experience lag issues during game which is serious problem for this genre.

Being a longtime DJ MAX series fans (and of course Beatmania series) this feature a new mode the - 4BFX mode. Same as the old-skool 4-buttons mode but somewhere in between during the play, you will need to utilize the L & R buttons as well. If your a newbie to this series - 'fraid not !! It featured a 2B (2 buttons) feature during the starting of the carrier modes which will slowly ease you towards the game.

But still I still can't quite manage the 5 buttons mode but yet I'm doing fine with 6-buttons mode. Kudos for me. Check it out, this game really worth your while as some of the song as kinda cool and catchy too.

Although it was released as a Korean title, but you can select language to English (may have some typos - but what the heck!!!). Trust me !! you'll love it.

ALSO in my MS Stick for casual gaming:-
